Why is memento so good

I would mostly warn you against showing a child this if you don't think they can handle it, not rating wise, but maturity wise. For some context, this movie is told from the perspective of an unreliable narrator, and the timeline is all over the place.

The beginning scene of the movie starts with the last part of the actual story, if that makes sense. Basically, there are colored scenes and black and white scenes. Due to the way the story is told, the viewer is left in the dark with just as much information as the main character has reminder; he has short term memory loss , and so the big reveal is also when the character finds out too. In order to understand this movie, your teen should have a mature mindset and be able to pick up on small details.

Your teen should also be engaged in the movie and be able to pay attention, as losing interest even for a second can be vital information lost. Due to the confusing storytelling choices, viewers need to be mature and be able to piece things together. They don't need to figure out the twist, but if they can't follow along with it the ending will be unsatisfactory and unenjoyable. They should also have a liking for mystery because this movie is jam packed with it.

Overall, it is a great movie, probably one of the best of it's time. It's unique, innovative, intriguing and absolutely mind bending. I sat in my room for about 20 minutes after finishing with pure shock on my face just staring blankly at my screen as the credits rolled. Absolute masterpiece. Tldr; Mature in the sense of mentally mature 14 and up teens should be able to enjoy Memento. The actual contents of the movie are really on the PG side, only rated R for themes that are talked about but never actually shown and strong language.

The real concern should be considering if your child is mature enough to keep up with the confusing story and being able to grasp and understand what is going on, as well as a good attention span to stay interested.

I highly recommend this movie, just make sure you know what you and your teen are getting into before watching! However, if you are trying to introduce your kid to rated R movies for the first time, I would probably save this one for another time. This title contains: Language.

There is cursing and violence, but it's not that bad. Mature themes. Very worth watching. Teen, 16 years old Written by DrPickle March 15, Gripping and Dark This is one of my favorite neo-noires and a wonderfully gripping story that requires a great deal of concentration to make sense of.

Teen, 14 years old Written by kersplat June 12, Intriguing, complex film makes you use you head Not a relaxing movie for a hazy afternoon at home sick! It swirls with mystery and bumbles with puzzle. Teen, 14 years old Written by andrewmp January 12, If you can get past that though, it has an amazing plot, acting, and mystery. A must see! Teen, 16 years old Written by superman13 August 25, Challenging psychological thriller one of Nolan's masterpieces "Memento" is a brilliant movie.

Like all of Christopher Nolan's work, this is a complex and inventive piece of filmmaking which warrants multiple viewings to peel back its layers and attain a cohesive understanding of the plot. With genius writing and a potent lead performance, "Memento" is one of my favorite movies of all time.

It might be Nolan's most unique film, one which forces the audience to assemble a cohesive narrative for themselves. Its about a widowed claims adjuster named Leonard, a man with a rare neurological disorder preventing him from making new memories, and he's dedicated his life to tracking down his wife's killer. Its an intriguing premise, but unlike any other conventional thriller ever made, this movie uses a special kind of non-linear storytelling to create a suffocating and challenging experience for the viewer.

I won't even mention Nolan's genius technique in this review, since "Memento" should be experienced without an inkling of prior knowledge about its structure unfortunately for me, I knew all about it before my first viewing of the film.

This picture will leave its audience reeling from its constant twists and turns. But does it try and ride the coattails of its brilliant storytelling? Gratefully not. Subtle as it is, I found myself sympathizing with Leonard throughout the movie. He's a tragic character, and Guy Pearce's performance is utterly phenomenal. Some of his dialogue is so gutteral and fluid that its difficult to see that he's acting.

Joe Pantoliano and Carrie-Anne Moss are in this movie both starred in The Matrix, another one of my all time favourites , and give engaging performances. Nolan's direction is great as usual, using his characteristic visual style to create wonderful shots. This is an important movie for film fans, since it demonstrates how a film can force its audience to solve its plot like a puzzle. Memento is no exception, as Leonard wants to find the man who killed his wife, and there are a lot of emotional scenes where he mourns his wife and a very moving scene where we witness how his condition affects his emotional state, when he asks, "how am I supposed to heal if I can't feel time?

While the characters in Memento are all revealed to be manipulative in their own way, The Dark Knight has many characters that we all love.

Bruce Wayne refuses to kill anyone, and the Joker is the perfect adversary for him, as he wants Batman to kill him so that he can break that rule. Rachel, Alfred, and Lucius are all great characters, and it's fascinating to watch Harvey Dent's fall over the course of the film. Nolan's superhero films always tell very elaborate stories with a lot of character growth and an intricate plot. However, Memento has a more simple premise than his more high-budget films.

This is a revenge story that seems familiar at first, but the execution of the premise makes it a much more unique film than we've grown accustomed to. It's a simplistic story, and Nolan excels in a simple story just as well as his complex ones. The music for the trilogy is exciting, bold, and emotional when it wants to be. While Memento has a great score from David Julyan, Zimmer's score is iconic, especially in the final moments of the film.

This film uses the narrative device known as the unreliable narrator. Similar to films such as Fight Club and Shutter Island , the credibility of the narrator is questionable. We believe everything Leonard tells us; he is our protagonist, and he has information written on polaroid photographs. Cassam Looch. Give us feedback. Read Next View.
