I really do want to Auto-X on occasion as well, and thinking that because I have the R-Package I don't stand a chance anyways, so are these Ohtsu tires a good way for me to have some cheap fun for a few years? I've not autocrossed or been on a track with the Ohtsus or any other tire but they should be fine for an occasional autocross.

Just remember that while they are a good all season tire, they are no where close to a good tw summer performance tire. The Bridgestone RE71R tires on my 92 are an amazing tire, but they have their downsides too. They will pick up gravel and sling it all over your car even when the tires are cold, and they can be noisy. In my experience, a good tw tire only enhances a Miata's good handling characteristics. In WI, if you can only have one set of tires, I would go with the Ohtsus.

They handle decently and will let you extend the usable season for driving your Miata. If you can do two sets of tires mounted, get the Ohtsus and a set of RE71Rs. They'll wear out fast if you drive much. That, along with the temperature limitations, make them a bad choice for everyday use in my opinion. My summer tire of choice, the Continental ExtremeContact Sport not available in 14" unfortunately is also temperature sensitive but with a lower threshold. My car won't be driven below freezing so they work fine for my needs. The Ohtsu is even more versatile, temperature-wise. I've had the Ohtsu FP on my 97 Miata for about 4 years. They were cheap and were a huge upgrade from the dirt cheap summer tires it came with when I bought the car.

I had no issues with traction in any temperature. This was with a Torsen diff model, manual, miata. Around turns, they do slide if they are pushed, but they do so predictably and have decent road feel. I'm about to finally buy some summer tires so once I have those I can actually do a side by side comparison.

I will probably use them one more year, then due to age, I'll get another set since they are starting to develop some minor dry rot. These tires are the ultimate cheapo miata tire. Granted, the performance is not even in the same ballpark as the high end stuff but this is a daily driver type tire for a basically stock car.

From what I have read, these are using the same molds as the old Falken Zeix tires, which were a great tire. I would like to confirm one way or the other, are the Ohtsu model using the same rubber compound and tire construction as the old Zeix tires?
